Prelude

Elle Jaune

The room became gloomier when I heard him play the piano near the window. It’s about 10:30 in the evening and I can see the moon is up to this sudden moment.

I never thought that I’d be hearing that soothing piano piece again...

It was cold at night and the fire inside the hearth is fading. I hugged my knees as I stare at him playing the piano peacefully.

The view of him is so serene and alluring. Though the light inside the room is so dim, the moonlight flooded his way through the piano as if Mr. Moon knew it that I love watching him this way.

I can see his eyes evenly closed, feeling the music on his ears and heart. His dark brows are as perfect as he is, his jaw is lightly determined, and a curve showed on his rosy lips. His dark curly hair that covers half of his ears which I really find cute for him shined in the moonlight.

A sudden rush of pain stabbed me at the back of my mind… and heart. I felt my eyes holding back my tears this time.

He opened his eyes.

He recognized me staring at him all this time and stared back at me, making me feel hopeless inside. But then, he continued playing the piano and showed a half smile on me – a sad smile.

“Why d—” my voice became weaker as I try to turn out the words.

“You never failed on me,” he said calmly, comforting me not to burst into tears at this very moment.

“Why…” of all the things that I’m dying to tell him, of all the stories that I’ve been through, I can only repeat my word this time.

“Please don’t cry… for me. I beg of you,” he pleaded, feeling hopeless too but just continued moving his fingers in the keys of the piano lightly.

It didn’t make the solitary moment stop. My tears fell as if it will never end.

“I’ll find you, and you’ll find me too. Somewhere… Some other time... Think of that little hope to flourish someday,” he speak softly as if t make me hold on to that little light of hope and to calm myself from sobbing.

The trees outside swayed as the night breeze meets their way. The window moved a little because of the wind that entered the room.

He pressed another keys of the piano slowly, filling the atmosphere so cold and sad.

“Until we meet again, Kathy,” and suddenly fading the music to a heartbreaking ending key—

“I love you.”
